Nzoia will entertain Mathare at their Sudi Stadium in Bungoma County. The two teams are 350 Kilometers apart and Mathare left Nairobi for Bungoma on Tuesday morning by road.
Team News
Nzoia Sugar will be without midfielder Jonathan Lokadet who has left for KCB. Victor Omondi is also reportedly on his way out and is a doubt for the match. Hillary Wandera, Vincent Ngesa and Festus Okiring missed the Sportpesa Shield match on Sunday through minor injuries and are likely to return against Mathare United.
Mathare United will be without Johnson Omurwa and Chrispinus Oduor who are away with the National team in India. Ezekiel Seda and Wycliffe Kasaya have left the club for AFC Leopards and Sofapaka respectively while George Owino, Abubakar Keya and Roy Syamba remain injured. Mathare coach Francis Kimanzi will also miss the match as he is in India with the National team.
Key players
Nzoia’s Elvis Rupia is the league’s top scorer and is a player who is likely to trouble Mathare. Peter Gin Juma too will be key in midfield. Mathare attacking duo of Cliff Nyakeya and Clifford Alwanga will be key for the Slum Boys.
Coach comments
“We want to win because we are playing at home. We know Mathare are a strong team and we will have to give our best to win,” Nzoia coach Bernard Mwalala said.
Pitch condition
Sudi Stadium is owned by Nzoia Sugar Company. It’s made of natural grass and is expected to be in good condition because the rains have reduced.
Fans
Nzoia will have a handful of fans because they will be playing at home. Mathare on the other hand will have no fans because their few supporters never travel long distances.
Style of play
The two teams play quick attacking football. They both like to use the wings.
