Ulinzi Stars vs Gor Mahia

Ulinzi Stars vs Gor Mahia

Recap

Ulinzi Stars will entertain the league leaders at Afraha Stadium in what will be the only Kenyan Premier League match of the weekend. The other teams will be taking part in the Sportpesa Shield Tournament.
Ulinzi Stars are winless in their last three league matches while Gor Mahia have won their last three league matches and are unbeaten this season in the Kenyan Premier League.
Key players
Elvis Nandwa and Daniel Waweru have been key for Ulinzi this season scoring and assisting goal respectively. They will once again be crucial when the league leaders take their hunting to Nakuru. On Gor Mahia’s side strikers Jacques Tuyisenge and Meddie Kagere are on good form while midfielder Francis Kahata is also in the form of his life.
Team news
Ulinzi will be without top scorer Masita Masuta and winger Cliff Kasuti who are out injured. For Gor Mahia they do not have any injury concern with long-term absentees Wellington Ochieng and Karim Nzigiyimana still out.
Style of play
Both teams play attacking football. Ulinzi Stars love using the wings and long balls because they have tall strikers while Gor Mahia love to attack by passing the ball around and creating spaces in the opponents defense.
Pitch condition/distance
The Afraha Stadium is not on good shape because of the rains being witnessed in Nakuru. The rains have affected the grass and have made the pitch unplayable. Nakuru is around 180 Kilometers from Gor Mahia base in Nairobi.
Coaches’ comments
“We are on for a very tough game, but we are ready for it. We have prepared well and the mood in the camp is great; there is no better challenge for my players than the prospect of facing the champions so my promise is we will have a good game out there tomorrow. We have tasted defeat and we have drawn in the last four matches. Somehow, that eases pressure on us whereas, for them, they want to keep their unbeaten run so they will be under pressure to protect that. The fact that they haven’t lost so far in the season makes them favorites but we will also go out there to play,” Ulinzi coach Dunston Nyaudo said.

“It is not going to be an easy match. Ulinzi is a very fit and tough side – we have to be ready and psychologically ready to face them. We’ve had very good training in the last two days and everybody is in good condition ahead of the match. I have no injury concerns and we are looking forward to the match. Every team wants to be the first team to beat Gor Mahia and we therefore have to be very professional in our approach to any match we play. I have urged my players to play to the best of their capabilities and I am sure we will get a positive result,” Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerry said ahead of the game.

The match will be live on K24 TV and KPL Facebook Page from 3PM
