Old Dominion took a run at the top of the ninth hit to tie a tie and beat the FIU at Infinity Insurance Park after Sunday’s 4-4, Sunday.
Monarchs (9-13, 2-4 Conference USA), Panthers (12-14, 3-3 C-USA) saved a game of three games series.
ODU’s Tommy Bell and Devon Adams started ninth with consecutive singles of FIU relaxing Greyson Fletcher (0-1). Bell came in to keep a 3-3 draw.
FIU relieved first-class left-hander Will Saxton Fletcher and shot him to keep a one-on-one open.
But the Panthers were set by Isaya Nelson, recording his second salvation at the end of the ninth century.
The FIU was looking for a 3-1 hitch to score the score below the eighth.
Seventh place, three straight hits by Christian Khawam, Lorenzo Hampton and Adan Fernandez, brought the Panthers in a run. Fernandez double-dipped Khawam.
In the eighth row, Juan Teixeira folded his triple and made a run-off shot on Derek Cartaya’s victim plane.
It was 2 for Hampton 2. Fernandez was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
On the deck, FIU Ruston goes to Louisiana. The Panthers are facing the LA Tech Bulldogs with three games to start at 7 am. EDTA. The series will last from Thursday to Saturday due to the Easter Sunday.
