Lewis Cook’s grandfather has won £17,000 while the Bournemouth’s player played the first match with England.

Four years ago, Trevor Burlingham put a bet of £500 in the hope that the 18-year-old nephew would play with England ahead of his 26th anniversary.

Cook has been summoned by England coach Gareth Southgate for England’s friendly and last night he played for 20 minutes giving a grand profit to his grandfather.

The midfielder was part of England in last November’s friendly to Brazil but did not play.

He did not play either in the Friday match against Holland, but was finally activated as a substitute in the match against Italy.

Cook, who came out of the Leeds United Academy and was England’s U20 captain when he won the World Cup in June, has made 23 Premier League appearances with Bournemouth this season.
